89 1500 value

Post by 89 1500 » Sun Aug 05, 2018 11:51 am

I have an opportunity to get a 94 1500SE from a friend real cheap, but I need to get rid of my 89 to do so. Mine is mechanically sound would ride it across the country without a second thought. The good: new tires, brakes, rebuilt carb with Honda kit, shift shaft seal new, new overflow tank cap, and serviced cooling system to include removal of clear tape from radiators seat good with extra corbin that needs redone. Bad: cruise inop, needs paint, carb needs sync, needs a good overall clean up. I looked at the NADA value and it wasn't very good. If you base it on cosmetic condition.....well....ya it's poor because it needs paint. nothing's broken or missing just faded. What I'm getting at and sorry for rambling here but would starting at 2k obo be asking too much. I'm trying to turn mine as fast as possible. My bud needs 1k for sxs parts he races with his son and isn't planning on riding again. I'm just trying to get his asking plus tt&l. Figured someone here would know if it's worth something or not. Never planned to sell until now and the 94 is very clean garage kept with the usual little issues.

Your "guess-timate" of the value seems spot-on. I didn't see the mileage on the 89 though, , , is it 100k +? That would be a reasonable starting price and the obo will hopefully get a buyer to make an offer that you can get up closer to 2k. Good luck with getting what you want.

Sorry I'm at 92,400 on mileage taking into account broken speedo cables through out the years. Not trying to kill anyone on price just trying to get enough to pay my bud the 1K he wants and cover tt&l for his 94. A little extra would be nice but not necessary. I had planned to get the 89 painted flat black with gloss accents this winter but if I can turn it to get the 94 my workload disappears and my bud gets his hotrod sxs parts for the Artic Cat. Thanks for the reply gonna wash her down this evening and list it tomorrow.

Yeah, my '91 has a bit of a "clear-coat" peeling issue too that makes it look less than original, so that might be a minus, , ,but you might do pretty well. Good luck.

I recently paid 2200 for my 88 gl1500 with 109xxx miles. It is mechanically sound as best I can tell, and everything works as it should. My bike needs good deep cleaning and has a few small cosmetic flaws. It also came with a matching trailer that I sold the night I got it home. Of course price varies wildly with location, but maybe that'll help you on an idea of asking price for yours.
