Concerned about compression

Post by frodeem » Mon Aug 06, 2018 2:41 pm

I have an '82 Aspencade. It doesn't run and I am troubleshooting the bike. I tested the compression and I got 115-120 in all four cylinders. The bike hasn't been started in a couple years at least. It was hydrolocked but I took care of that. My question is - Is it possible that the connecting rods are bent? Another question - Anytime I leave the petcock on for a couple hours gas leaks into cylinder 4. Does this mean I have to clean the carbs?

Thanks

Don't worry about those compression #s, they are pretty even and it hasn't been ran in a long time so they will come up.
Yes, you are probably going to have to clean the carbs. You would be way luckier than me if you didn't.

Thank you sir. I will look into cleaning the carbs. If the carbs are dirty is it normal for the bike to not start? Or should it at least start? I tried starter fluid but it didn't start with that either.

Yep dirty carbs but not starting with starter fluid you may have other issues. That compression is low but the bike should still start, how the spark? How's the battery?

What other issues could they be? I will check the spark tomorrow. The battery is new.
