94 GL1500A fuel filter replacement

Post by tcryder » Wed Aug 08, 2018 7:20 pm

I installed a new fuel filter on my 94, I bought it 3 years ago and hadn't replaced it. I think it was the original fuel filter, pictures attached.

I think it would created some problems in the near future. tcryder

There is a stainless steel one from Randak's (sp), that lasts as long as the bike, as it is user cleanable. Make sure when you are servicing your bike to include the fuel filter as well as some of the other filters.

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

Often overlooked by many when doing maintenance. I'll bet a lot of owners have no idea where it is.

Pretty hard to miss seeing that filter.
It's right there visible every time you open the hatch to refuel.
When all else fails, RTFM!

I don't think he means it is not seen, just that replacement is overlooked by many. If I didn't have an Excel spreadsheet that I document maintenance on, I would probably overlook it as well. It is easy to neglect some tasks, like changing brake and clutch fluids annually.

If you have the ones that you can see the filter, which is the only kind I buy, you will be able to see water start to collect on the bottom side of it.....

that is the time to change it....
on my lawnmower, that was every 2nd day, until I got a gallon of water out of it.....
don't ask..........

now, it lasts all summer, and I change it each spring

Just changed the fuel filter on my '95 1500 and cut it open as well. Looks similar to yours.

When I first got my 90 a while back I was driving it home and it slowly lost power on the highway and died. Scary!
Went home and got the trailer and brought her home the hard way. Well when i serviced the bike I found the fuel filter to be totally clogged. Musta had 100k on it.
