Left side not firing
Hello, I'm new to the forum and I've been working on a 1982 GL1100 interstate. I'm having an issue with the left cylinders. I can pull the plug wires off both and nothing changes. Seems like it's only running on the right side. I have pulled the carbs and cleaned the bowls, the idle jets, the main jets, checked the floats levels, slides moved easily with no restrictions. I have also checked compression and spark and have plenty of both. It idles fine, revs up nicely while parked, drives along okay up to 80km/h but if I accerlerate quickly it starts sputtering and backfiring quite violently. The air screws are all turned out 3 turns. I also noticed that the spark plug wires are reversed on the right side of the bike. I tried switching them back but then it won't fire at all. Totally confused and in need of some guidance. Please help!

I'm confused, too! You say it's only firing on the right side, but it idles fine, revs nicely and drives ok up to 80km/h? A 4 cylinder 'wing firing on 2 cylinders would do none of these. If it's firing on 2 it would sound like a box of spanners at idle at least and have very little pulling power.TGD wrote: ↑Sun Aug 12, 2018 3:24 pmHello, I'm new to the forum and I've been working on a 1982 GL1100 interstate. Makes me wonder if he has tried changing plugs. If it idles fine and won't take a sudden load, seems something in ignition is wrong. That is if he really can get it to 80kph. Don't know a lot about the 1100s.
