Leaking antifreeze

Post by Ohara » Wed Sep 26, 2018 8:18 am

Hello folks, my 86 Interstate is leaking antifreeze from the exhaust studs on the left side. Is the a coolant tube that can leak in this area or am I definitely into a new head gasket? The bike is running good, no smoke.

I think you have a leak from somewhere else that is ending up at the studs, if it was head gasket it would be running rough and usually water vapor come out of the exuast have you checked the top and bottom radiator hoses, left side could suggest upper hose. also the hose connection near the radiator cap? this one is notorious for leaking. if hoses are ok, check the radiator for leaks too.

Methinks leaky O-rings in the coolant tubes from the cylinder heads.....
They say 98% of all Hardleys ever made are still on the road..... The other 2% made it home.
(I stole this from somebody on another GW site...)

I finally took ten minutes to take off the lowers, found two leaks so far. One was the upper rad hose lower connection, the other one is the over flow tube where it connects to the rad. I will pull the shelter off next and see what else I can find.. Good thing I have the Aspencade to ride,it allows me the luxury to take my time with this repair... :D
