exhaust pipe dimensions?
What are the dimensions of a stock exhaust pipe on a 1500?
I wanna plug the pipes to keep any mice out over winter.
Other than putting peppermint all over the place, what else do u suggest?
I have stabil in gas

Re: exhaust pipe dimensions?
I doubt you'll find a mouse that has ANY interest in your exhaust pipes, and he couldn't do any damage to the exhaust anyway.... But they have been known to get into the air intake and make a nest in the air filter. There's a thread here somewhere about mices in the air filters.... Some people have put a screen over the air intake so the meeses can't get in.
Maybe a few mothballs tossed around the engine, the mice won't like them, and in the spring when you start running the engine they'll just evaporate from the heat...

Re: exhaust pipe dimensions?
I had a mouse build a nest inside the oily exhaust pipe on my Bultaco 2 stroke awhile back. So they do go into exhaust pipes. When I tried to start it I kicked and kicked and when it finally started it blew a nest full of dead mice and nest material out the tail end.DenverWinger wrote: ↑Sun Oct 07, 2018 8:02 amI doubt you'll find a mouse that has ANY interest in your exhaust pipes, and he couldn't do any damage to the exhaust anyway.... So far I have not found anything to deter them. I have seven mouse traps set up in my garage and check them daily and there is always at least two mice caught. I live out in the boonies and there isn't any ferrell cats around here and it seems like the owls and coyotes aren't doing there job.

Last spring I changed the rear tire on my 1500 and found a nest built between the top box and the side box on the right just to the right of the rear wheel on a little ledge of plastic. I think those little critters just like to ride the same as we do.

Re: exhaust pipe dimensions?
They say only Bounce works ? Give it a try and see what happens. They chewed through the ones I stuck into my pipes. But they didn't have a chance to build a nest in there.
Why not just form some 1/4 inch chicken over the opening. If you go for a ride then just pull it off. Prolly take all of 5 seconds.

Re: exhaust pipe dimensions?
I have 10 motorcycles sitting in my garage and some of them don't get started or ridden very often. I have chicken wire over there exhaust pipes and over the air intakes on the ones I can get to. They have never been able to chew through that as far as I know. At least there have never been any nests in them. But that sure wont stop them from getting into other things. That's why I have been trying all the other smelly things as well and so far none of them work. So now I am going to try Irish Spring. A very elderly lady told me that is what she uses so I am going to give it a try. Sure don't have anything to loose.
I tried some of those mint packs that look like tea bags. I surrounded a mouse trap with for bags, in the morning there was a mouse in the trap. Well that didn't work so good, so much for mint .

Re: exhaust pipe dimensions?
People sometimes ask me why I have 10 bikes and I tell them because I sold two. LOL

I have a few of them for sale like the Honda cx500 turbo that needs some work but very little, it has only 4,247. miles on it.
I do some restoration work when I feel like it but have lost a lot of interest in it from doing it for to long on old vintage Bultacos.
The ones I want to keep, at least for now is a 1972 Honda ct90 dual range tranny, a 2000 Kawasaki w650, looks like an old Triumph Bonneville.
A 2010 Yamaha xt250 dual sport, a 1994 Honda gl1500se sidecar rig. And my 1972 Bultaco Alpina 250cc two smoker. That old Bultaco is still my all time favorite dirt bike.
I just sold my Yamaha TW200 and a 2003 Honda Valkyrie. I have my 2002 Honda gl1800 for sale for 7,400.00 dollars and it has 4,500.00 dollars of farkels on it. No takers yet. It's on craiglist in the Portland ,Oregon. area and on Sound Rider news letter. My girl friends Honda cx500 custom might be for sale as well. There are a few other restoration projects sitting there that I might never get around to doing. Like a 1982 Honda gl1100 Naked bike. I think that was the last of the naked gold wings.
Wanna buy a few.....hahaha.....

try tennis balls to block up the exhausts. cut to size, and two seconds to remove.

Re: exhaust pipe dimensions?
Have issues getting back into Canada with conversions if you don't have correct paperwork and an approved conversion. Would have to check with customs to see what is allowed. Have heard of people who did go to the US, have a conversion done, and could not get their bike back into Canada afterwards.
