Not a Good Day at the Gas Station (need a part)
Well, was GOING to gas up Sat pulled up shut her off then
when pulling my key out of ignition dropped it and it fell down the curved insert and DEEP into the inner recesses of my wing (probably behind the radiator)
I didnt have a key ring on it just a key
Called wife she came got me I THOUGHT I had another key for it but NOT
SOooooooooo...hooked up the trailer and went to get it
It was windy and my right side cover blew off somewhere on way home
Searched for it to no avail
(had a tit missing so that didnt help)
Not a real good day to say the least
I DID get a new key cut off the lock code on the glove box so that problem is solved
NOW to find a right sidecover. (Battery side, 1988-95 GL1500)
If any member has one or can point me to one
it would be sorely appreciated. I know I'm gonna have to paint it but my Wing is
nice and I do not want that chrome sidecover that is available besides it doesnt fit the early ones that good.
Any help appreciated...Thanks!

I always carry a 2nd key in my tourmaster pockets,
if not there, in my jeans hip pocket.

Add-On Accessories makes side covers, unfinished, that you can paint to match your bike:

I saw those, they will be my last alternative if I dont find any othersWingAdmin wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 2:10 pmAdd-On Accessories makes side covers, unfinished, that you can paint to match your bike:

that or the chrome ones
but I have all winter, I'm hoping I can come up with an original WIDE cover
(I guess 88-94 is the same, 95-2000 are narrower which these are)
With a used one, I hope to find one with nice emblems which would save me another $60 or so
Missed this one yesterday, even tho it was grey it was in nice condition and would have worked
even w/o painting at least until I was ready. Sold for 74.99 free shipping...drat!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-Honda-Gol ... 7675.l2557
I am patient, I'll find one somewhere I'm sure
Appreciate the help, tho! Thanks!

Back in 2004, when I bought our trike, owner bought me a new battery side cover plus emblems, over $400 just for cover.
I have a spare keys wired under both Wings out of sight, and side covers of both secured with hidden cords.

I have my safety key wired under left front pocket, (4 screws far away) and EVERY removable part is secured using steel fishing line and lock snaps.

Just checked Ebay and a Salvage Co. in California............uhh.......go with WingAdmin's advice on the new side cover and have it painted.
WOW..!! They want a lot for those babies..! Cheaper to buy blank and paint it. IMO.

Open the Gas cap "lid" and you'll find the "color code" number sticker that has the color code of your paint. I'll do my best to find the exact panel and color as soon as you get that number to us. The number should match one of these;
Color codes for 1989 Honda Goldwing 1500:
Candy Wineberry Red: R114CU
Commodore Blue: B127M
Martini Beige Metallic: YR149M
If your bike has a custom paint job, , , , disregard this post
BTW, , , do the steel fishing line and lock snaps on ALL removable tupperware ASAP!!! It'll pay for itself the first time something comes loose, , ,(stepping off soap box now)

Re: Not a Good Day at the Gas Station (need a part)
OUCH!!!
I feel your pain. My first panel "loss" was due to some jerk who stole it while I was shopping at a Wal*Mart. It set off my alarm, but these days nobody wants to get involved for fear of a lawsuit. The second one left me as I was on my way home from work... at 75mph on the freeway. This last time was about two months ago. I purchased a new one, painted, from BikeBandit. https://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/19 ... 3#sch24148. CycleMax had them listed too but BikeBandit beat their price this time and they are closer to my house to boot!
If you do purchase a new one, be sure to order a replacement grommet. Also, the badges are not included but are available.
I also purchased Rudy's Keepers
http://rudysproducts.com/Store/CK4.html
I first read about these on Goldwingdocs but thought mine would never fall off by themselves because I had to tug pretty hard to get them off. I did buy the full kit because the front fender parts don't look like they would be any easier to hunt down.
I wish you success.

Re: Not a Good Day at the Gas Station (need a part)
Has it been easy to get paint with code yr149m? Here in a shop I`ve been buying spray, they don’t have books for the recipe (yr149m) for Honda MC’s age 80’s.
So they have made it manually, I have showed sidepanel.
Then last time there were older guy behind desk and he said let’s look old Honda cars book if anything would be close. And yes, we found this...
Ok, it looks a bit metallic but was really close to correct match. Of course it makes diffrence to have lacquer on it but other times before I’ve bought spray bottles, it’s been mix that showed ok on cloudy day, but darker on sunny day....
This colour matches nice

Re: Not a Good Day at the Gas Station (need a part)
Yep, "matching" paint on a 30 yr old Goldwing is dam-near IMPOSSIBLE!!! Consider all of the "sun-fade", and damage/affect of soaps, cleaners, chemicals, dirt and crud. Chances are that even an EXACT match of the factory color will NOT match a 30 yr old paint job. Even buying a "used/salvaged" panel that matches your "color code" is likely to be slightly different looking, , , , but it'll be close. It proves that keeping your original panels is so dang important, , use tethers, or security straps.

Re: Not a Good Day at the Gas Station (need a part)
Hope you find a side cover. Of course we all have solutions after the fact. I always have a spare key on every motorcycle I have owned. On the wing there are several places you can hide it. Tape it to the metal bar that holds the battery in. tape it to the inside of one of the rear passenger pockets. use a wire tie and connect it to the frame somewhere under the bike.
