Look like fun to anyone else?
Anxious to get out to the shop today to finish off the head gasket replacement. The worst part for me is to scrape, scrape, scrape...… I have all the gasket material off and half of the de-carboning finished. 100,000 miles and I have been using Shell Rotella diesel oil for the last 50,000 miles and there is still a real nice cross hatch in the cylinder walls. Used a machinist's flat table to emery cloth the heads and they are very flat and square. Not doing the valve seals as the bike never smokes at start up. Really enjoying this, good therapy!

Re: Look like fun to anyone else?
Doing a valve job on my '85 LTD because the leak down test indicated the exhaust valves were passing a lot of air, and the compression was down nearing 100 PSI. The exhaust valves are generally the culprit and the seats were very nasty. Here is a pic of one of #1 cylinder seats before lapping:
You already have the heads off, wouldn't hurt to take a look and give the valve seats a once over.
Cheers
After lapping: The cross hatch in the engine cylinders is still good as well. You already have the heads off, wouldn't hurt to take a look and give the valve seats a once over.
Cheers

Nice job, it looks like you were getting a bit of leakage on that exhaust valve, so you were probably not too far away from burning exhaust valves.
