Using 10w40 Mobil one fully synthetic motor oil
Owners manual states 20W40 motor oil for 1995 Goldwing which I never had trouble finding sold by Mobil One fully synthetic. It now seems to no longer be available. . Will using 10W40 be a concern?

Not at all, in fact a good number of us are using 5w40 synthetic Diesel oil (Rotella).

DenverWinger, Thanks for the information. I was hoping there wouldn't be any concerns.

Re: Using 10w40 Mobil one fully synthetic motor oil
I am using Rotella T6 in 5w40
the 5w or 10w just ensures that oil pressure comes up fast.
my car is spec'd by GM at 5w20 and has been on full synthetic since new 11 years ago.

Here is what I just used in mine. As Denverwinger said, no friction modifiers.
Mobil 1 High Mileage doesn’t contain them.
WingAdmin has an oil change how to that shows this oil.

Yup, I have been using that oil for many, many years. My GL1500 loves it. Not a lot of auto places carry it, but Wal-Mart always does, and it's cheaper than anywhere else.RockportDave wrote: ↑Sat Oct 13, 2018 2:41 pmHere is what I just used in mine. As Denverwinger said, no friction modifiers.

Have been using it in my truck for a long time. Never occurred to use it in my wing but I guess they aren't making delo anymore so gonna have to switch.

I've owned my 94A since new. At 10,000 miles I switched to Mobile 1 at the proper 'weight'. I've been using that or Shell Rotella, changing every 10,000 miles. It just turned 188,000 and still purrs like a kitten. Original clutch. Uses NO oil between changes.

Re: Using 10w40 Mobil one fully synthetic motor oil
Kinda like my car, '85 Camry, bought it in 1990 with 90,000 miles. I use 10w40 Valvoline Max-Life Synth Blend, changing at 5000-8000 miles. Now 350,000 miles, negligible oil use, maybe 1/2 Qt, it too is STILL on the original clutch! (unless someone burned out the Original in the first 90,000 miles)
Until buying the GL1500 I used the Max-Life in EVERYTHING (even the lawnmower), but the 1500 was raised on Rotella T6 so that's what I've been using in her.
WallyWorld sells both oils at comparable prices, but lately the Max-Life 10w40 has been getting scarce, only finding 10w30, I may just switch EVERYTHING over to the Rotella T6 5w40 (the Camry, '85 Cherokee, GF's '99 Grand Prix and '83 Virago, both Wings and even the lawnmower and generator).
Can you tell I don't like stocking multiple oils in the garage?

One day I had to take my service truck in for an oil change..... while there at the city's maintenance depot, I wandered around the shop area, and noted that all of the oil spigots that used to hang from the ceiling were gone!!

Only 1 remaining at each stall.... talked with the shop supervisor and asked him how come?
He said, that when GM came out with the specification that all warranties would be void unless their cars used only 0w20 weight oils, management made a decision. All of the other oils would be used up, and when those tanks went dry, they would be filled with only 0w20....
So, the entire fleet of 2000+ vehicles, regardless of type or age ( some were '70s '80s ), if it was a gasoline engine, it was serviced with 0w20 oil... and he then made a comment that in the 10 or 15 years since that occurred, NOT A SINGLE ENGINE had come in the shop for a "lack of oil related" problem. Not one engine had locked up, lost a valve train, nothing...
That is in a city that experiences 100+ days a year with 110°F daily temperatures every day.
we worry too much about what oil is in our engines....
the only thing we need worry about, is changing it out often enough with a fresh filter.
I mentioned earlier that my GL1800 is running Rotella T6 in 5w40 full synthetic, and I won't be changing to anything else.
