I have both 78 and 79 GL1000 can I just swap the tires? The 78 has spikes and the 79 mags and I want them switched??

My 78 had the mags. I think the only changes between 78 and 79 were the tail light and turn signal shapes. Do you have the registration tag on the steering head?

both the '78 and '79 had mags but the spokes are different even though they are in Honda's comstar shape turn signals are different too. if you have a '78 with spoke wheels someone changed them over cause there was no option for spoke wheels on the '78

Here's a link to the GL1000 page on Cyclechaos.com: http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_GL1000

There were some minor differences, such as turn signals, tail light, color of clutch and brake levers, and maybe a few other minor odds and ends. Otherwise, the two years are nearly the same. The 78 is my favorite year - for some reason, I like the older style round turn signals.
