GL1200 clutch slave cylinder gunk

Bought an '86 Aspy that had stood non-running for years...don't mind turning a wrench on it!! Removed the clutch slave cylinder to discover this batch of gunk...any ideas what it is?

Dried up clutch (hydraulic/brake) fluid. The slave cylinder needs to be rebuilt, because it is leaking. You can see the same stuff on this leaky front brake master that I just rebuilt:
