do 1000 carbs fit 1100 ?

Post by winguyjo » Mon Nov 19, 2018 9:34 pm

in another thread i talked about buying a fairing/luggage/crashbars from a guy who is stripping a '77 gl1000. all that stuff was, in fact, from a gl1100 so it will work for me and i got a really good price on it.
he will soon be pulling and selling the engine. i don't need the block, the exhaust isn't worth buying, and the starter, from what i have read, wont fit on a gl1100. there is however, a set of carbs that might be nice to have in stock. what's the word here ... will they work on a gl1100 ? by that i mean ... is it a straight bolt in, with no modifications and no appreciable loss of performance ?

thanks
joe

Yes they are a direct bolt on except the 1000 carbs have no port for the vacuum advance hose. The 75-77 carbs are a larger bore which may or may not improve performance on an 1100, got my doubts it would be noticeable. Maybe if you put the 1000 cams in it.

I also don't know if you would notice much difference but read here.

Not much apparently, I have pulled off the vacuum line while riding an 1100, trying to diagnose a problem and couldn't tell it made any difference.
