DAB is digital broadcast (terrestrial, not satellite) radio in England. It's the successor to old analog radio systems.

We have something similar in the US, called "HD Radio" but most people don't know about it, and it's not marketed very well. Most people that have it in their cars don't even realize it.

In both cases, you need a radio that is equipped to decode the digital broadcasts in order to pick them up.

When the FCC switched us to digital TV signals it seemed like every store was selling the conversion boxes to go between your antenna and your analog television. I wonder if anybody marketed a similar product for radios?
