Re: Activate Nav while moving
You are right about the 12v on the relay all the time but if you think about it many of the relays have power to them all the time.
Thanks for the feed back.

I think this is a great fix. On the 2012 you cannot adjust the headlights or the preload while moving. Is there a fix for this "safety" feature ?

Re: Activate Nav while moving
There is but I don't use it. do a search on gl1800riders it is there. Please read the precautions if you do the mod.
I haven't read about it in a long time but there maybe some mechanical issues if you do the mod.
I'm not judging or criticizing the mod I just have no interest in it.

Re: Activate Nav while moving
Does anyone have the wiring diagram for this mod? I have the relay but the instructions on what wire goes where is vague.

Re: Activate Nav while moving
I just finished this, and it works perfectly! I followed the first procedure, didn't see the second until just now.
A couple of notes: W/Bl is for White/Black (not White/Blue).
The hardest part of the whole thing, believe it or not, is getting the damned seat back on so that the handles can be screwed in. Those holes just don't want to line up.
Thank you for the tip. Much happier biker now.

Re: Activate Nav while moving
I just finished this mod, but I did a few things differently than other suggested here. For starters, I put my relay in the trunk GPS case and got the ground for the relay from the ground at the Nav module. This meant I only needed to run one extra wire into that trunk (the trigger wire for the relay).
Since I felt more confident in the solution having the relay wired as N.C., I went about looking for the yellow / white in connector C18 under the right speaker. It’s buried pretty well so I looked at the wiring diagram and found a better way. The same wire runs to the cruise / reverse module (black connector, not the blue one) above the air box on the 2012+. I tapped my wire there for the relay trigger.
Here are some pics that should help explain what I did.

Re: Activate Nav while moving
So the speed sense wire is in the 6 wire connector and is white with a very thin black stripe?

It is white with a black stripe and it’s PIN number 6 in the 24 pin connector at the nav module on the 2012-2017 bikes.

Re: Activate Nav while moving
I picked up my 2010 GL1800 on Saturday. Discovered this catch-22 on the ride home.
Put the bike in Accessory.
Program the GPS.
Start the bike. (Nav resets)
Drive off and get on highway.
Curse and swear.
I think I'll try this mod after I've had the bike for a while.

Re: Activate Nav while moving
Ed, it sounds like you didn't save the programming before starting the bike.

Actually, the only issue was that I couldn't press the OK button. The Nav remembered the route just fine. As soon as I stopped at a rest area and pressed the button, the nav started right up.
I may try the mod described about.
Stupid nav. My 2017 Subaru Forester has an equally stupid nav, in other ways.
Shiny side up,
Ed

Re: Activate Nav while moving
Is it possible to get a schematic of this for any clarification for the 06-08 and any updated list on the relay. Thank you
