Any dual sport riders here?

Post by Ob1quixote » Tue Apr 02, 2019 9:06 pm

Or is it just me?

I run them on my DRZ400. Even been known to attempt an Iron Butt Saddlesore on it.
Adding and organized adventure ride to the mileage to make it tough...

I am seriously thinking of looking for a BMW GSA later this year. I do heavy touring with my wing and dont know how many times I have passed an interesting dirt road and wistfully thought, wish I could go down that road. I backpack in the sierras so camping out with an adventure bike off the beaten path here in NV or some other location would be easy for me. I live just a few hours north of Death valley and would like to be able to explore and camp down there off and on through out the winter. And then of course there are huge tracks of open land here in Nevada just begging to be explored. So I'm pretty sure its going to happen for me...ha! :D
I have too decide air cooled or liquid cooled BMW???? I believe13 was the last year for air.

Yeah, not exactly dual sport, but hey, you get to see some dirt!

I do both dual sport and adventure type riding.

While the definitions seem a bit fluid, for me, dual sports means riding single track trails, using as much 2 track or dirt roads to get to them, and as little pavement as possible. An adventure ride has little of no single track, lots of 2 track and dirt roads, and avoids pavement where possible.

I am involved with promoting a few dual sport events in the southeast. Spent last weekend marking trail for the Armenia Dual Sport.
Info at www.carolinadualsporters.com
Some adventure rides listed there as well.
The Blue Ridge Adventure Ride in Pineola NC has multiple routes, and the ones mostly paved are GW friendly!

My ride, a Suzuki DRZ400. Have even attempted an Iron Butt Saddlesore...twice!

While not a dual sport, or even a true Adventure" bike, I am building a 1984 Goldwing into an ADV bike so I can do the dirt roads. Its an Aspencade that got the full naked tratment, 1500 forks/wheel/tire/brakes and the 1500 rear wheel/tire/brake/final drive. That way I can get some decent off road tires. it is posted here:

I did have a KLR650 and a Rally Raid CB500X, but sold them both and I regret it.
