1996 Goldwing Aspencade needs starter fixed

Post by razmataz » Sun Apr 07, 2019 10:47 am

Please help me figure out what to do with my Honda Goldwing. I bought it 1 year ago and only got to ride it a couple dozen times when the starter went out. Two wheel World had it for 3 months and then asked me to come and get it because it was too difficult for them to fix. Al Lambs Honda, a dealership, are asking $4000 to fix the starter saying it is an internal starter problem that requires the complete removal of the engine. Is there a mechanic that can help me out in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that I can contact and give me a decent price and good work???

Does the starter motor turn when you try to start? If they mean starter internals, then that is a simple fix. If it is engine internals, that is another story. I had a problem with a starter several years ago, and took that starter to an automotive elect place and he got the parts for me to fix it. Hardest part is reinstalling it. Hope you have the manual from Honda, and follow their directions. That is the hardest part. I am about to pull the starter on my 2000 to get at the reverse idler gear'. Lot more complicated as I have to pull the engine. I strongly advise getting the Honda Manual! Not Chilton or one of those.
Ride safe, and smart. Asphalt is like #1 grit sandpaper. Dave

They have down on this repair order, 1 starter motor assembly, a gear assembly, 1 gear. They said to fix it they would have to remove the engine. Yes the starter does turnover but it skips and then quits!! Any ideas about someone who can work on this bike??
