Forgive me for I have sin (going trunkless)

Post by jaimenv » Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:54 pm

Not planning in riding two up any time soon, so I am going to save the trunk and rack away and ride the bike as shown.
I was going to make a rear rack of sorts, yet after seeing the nice clean lines of the back end with a 81 GL1100 tail light I like it a lot.
I can see a removable rack or backrest, but will see how my back handles it on long trips.

I do have a small issue at the license plate location, but nothing a few spacers can't take care.
The mounting holes for the 81 tail light assembly where just about spot on, they needed a little filing, still need to drill a hole for the third hole on the fender.
But for now enjoy.

I am working on (many) repairs to my original (to me) '84 1200 Aspencade. I recently got it back from my brother-in-law who I sold it to back in '05. My wife wanted me to get it back because it was the bike I had when we met and got married on and took our honeymoon on. But my B-I-L neglected the poor thing so it needs almost everything. Anyway, I bought a brand new '15 GL1800 (in '15) and that is my main ride, so this will be kind of a toy (for a while). But I'd like to do exactly what you've done. I like it! The trunks were the weak link on these bikes and didn't hold up well, so I have no problem losing it. But currently the wife won't let me (until she gets a few rides and sees how much nicer the 1800 is in reality), but I hope she will later. It would make it a little lighter and feel "sportier" also. I like the tail light too. Nice job. Good luck with it!

I should be picking up an '85 aspencade that the PO removed the trunk from. I like the look of it that way and I still have my 1500 if I need a trunk or i'll use my small wolfman waterproof duffle bag

Rear bar installed.
It will work really good if I ever need to get push started.
To tell the truth I should have cut all of the stuff in the inside and leave the square perimeter of the trunk mounting rack intact.

I plan on picking up the trunk rack but not a trunk
