Gear switch unavailable

Post by khspe2 » Fri Apr 12, 2019 11:10 pm

I have a 1988 GL1500 that needs the gear switch that is inside the transmission cover. I tested the switch per the manual, so I know the switch is bad.
My problem is that the switch, 35759-MN5-003 is no longer available. However this switch appears to be available for the 99 GL1500.
On the 88 switch, there are leads for neutral, third, fourth and overdrive, but not second and first. I suspect that the newer switch has leads for all gears.
Would the newer switch physically fit in the 88? I could modify the wires in the connector as required.
Any input would be appreciated.

Looks like it will work using the 99 switch
