No spark but can't find the problem behind the cause HELP me PLEASE!.

Post by Mudge » Thu May 23, 2019 3:17 pm

I have a 1976 gl1000, I have an issue that i don't understand and would appreciate some help.
I had her running and then switched off the ignition as I needed to collect my daughter from school in the car.
I got back home half hour later and went back to the bike to take it for a run, I put the key in the ignition and turn the key and as is normal all of the idiot lights come on those that should that is, I then press the start button and the engine turn over but nothing else, the bike does not fire, not even a cough!, I check the fuel tap is on, I then check each plug cap is correctly seated on the plug and nothing is wrong there, i then lift the tank top cover remove the air filter box and check non of the ca les are disconnected including the HT leads nothing wrong there, a while back the ignition switch was playing up as in the ignition lights and everything else would just shut down as i was riding down the road but this issue just went away as quickly and mysteriously as it appeared.
I've checked all of the fast blow glass fuses and they are all good, is there a fuse somewhere else that I need to change or replace?.
I would be greatfull for any help and advice you can give me.

Is there actually no spark?
Did you bump the "kill" switch?

Also, check the bullet connectors for the black wire with a white stripe. This wire goes to the coils and kill switch.

Hi and thank you to the replies and advice that I received.
I'm not sure what the issue was but i went out yesterday to give the bike another go and she started, and ran nicely once she was warmed up with a nice stead tick over.
I have also followed the advice and checked the kill switch and wireing.
There is one thing that has happened on a couple of occasions and that is when riding down the A27 towards portsmouth from havant shes cut out all of a sudden without any warnings, I then get over to the hard shoulder and turn the ignition off and then on and she starts without any issues, so im going to change the ignition switch just in case it's that thats got an issue.
Thank you once again.
Regards
Vic
