More questions I'm afraid

Post by doughnutysl » Thu May 23, 2019 3:52 pm

Hi,
My 1976 GL1000 has a microswitch on the clutch lever, what is its purpose?
Currently its operating the Neutral light on the dash? Everytime I pull in the clutch to change gear the neutral light comes on, surely that isn't right?
I can feel the gearbox slip into neutral when i pull up on the gear lever after stopping but still have to release the clutch very slowly to be safe as the neutral light serves no purpose as it's on because the clutch is pulled in, not because its in netural!!
For modern bikes I can understand that they have a switch which allows the starter to kick in when the clutch is pulled but not for a 1976 bike surely?
Does your bikes have this microswitch and what does it do on your bikes if you have it?
Thank you
Cheers
Paul

Between that switch and the neutral safety switch is a diode. Its bad.
And yes the switch allows you to crank the bike while in gear if you pull in the clutch lever. This diagram is common yo the 1000 too.

Hi Virgilmobile,
That is a great help, thank you so much.
Now I understand and it all makes sense, I just have to find the diode now then :-)
Cheers
