Oil Change.... All Oil Leaks Out

Post by ScottyDooha » Wed Jun 05, 2019 2:50 pm

Got a 1981 Honda GL1100 I am trying to get running. Changed oil and tried to run it for a bit. Sounded terrible and like it may be missing. Pic 1 is one of the spark plugs. Needs replaced for sure right? Every drop of oil I put in leaked out over 2-3 days at the bottom of the bike in pictures. I need to find out where this oil leak is. I have no idea and no lift to use. I'm assuming its a gasket and have no clue where to start or what to do.

I can get more pics or info if needed. Please help!

before you put a wrench on those plugs you should spray them at their bases with pb blaster or something similar. let it soak in overnight while you determine where the oil leak is. source of oil leak should be your primary concern right now. wipe the engine down, spray with degreaser, wipe down again, apply some talcum powder, baby powder or flour then the source of the leak should show up.
more info on the bikes history always helps ... how long have you owned it, how long has it sat since it last ran ... etc.

The spark plug wells are holding water. There is a drain hole at the bottom. Use a stiff wire to clean out.

Looks like it could be the shifter shaft seal but it wouldn't let all the oil leak out.

You seem to have a break in the ridge? rim? where the starter fits into the engine. See second pic.

To empty the crankcase in 2-3 days there would be a visible continuous drip.
