2014 no start issue- resolved

Post by draggin14 » Mon Jul 01, 2019 10:31 pm

A week or so ago, I was taking the 2014 bike out to gas it up in preparation for a trip to Maggie Valley. I geared up and pressed the start button and it just spun over. No start! I tried again and the Fault Indicator light came on. I searched the web and found out how to ID the codes. I have less than 20k on the wing and didn't want to believe that I had a gremlin like this. It was a code 19. I then saw a thread somewhere that said to hold the throttle wide open and crank it. I tried it and it fired up after cranking for a short time! I was fearful of a repeat for the entire 1500 mile trip (wed - Fri) but I had no issues after that. It had been sitting for about a week before this. I am just hoping that it doesn't become an issue going forward.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe code 19 is the crank position sensor. Those are known to be intermittent when failing. Hopefully, intermittent failure will not happen on your trip. As time passes, intermittent will become more consistent.

I had the exact issue with my ‘14 F6B. Randomly didn’t want to start. Turned out to be a CPS going bad. Replace it.
Keep the rubber side down.

Had the same, crank postion sesnsor went bad on my '14 at 47,000. Hesitated to start twice, weeks apart, before finally giving up. Fault code was correct. Luckily still under warranty,$$$.
