2002 GL-1800 L/S Storage Compartment

Post by sra639 » Tue Jul 02, 2019 7:36 pm

I have a recent purchase of a 2002 Goldwing That developed a problem. All 3 luggage Compartments worked fine while
seeing the bike for the first time. After I got the bike home the left side wont open. The owner manual says,
There is a release lever that is accessable by removing a plug in the tour box floor. Well I tried that and it won't
Open. Does anyone know any way to get it open without damage?
Thanks,
Aggrevated in Chicago

Did you try pushing the door first and hold, then pull the lever to take any tension off the latch?
If there is tension on the latch from overloading or too big an item in the compartment putting pressure, you have to relieve the pressure before pulling the lever, or an out of adjustment latch will need that relief also.

My 02 did the same thing. I had to push in slightly on the saddle bag lid and pull the release lever at the same time.
You might want to check the cable adjustment also

Not sure of this but a long time back someone said you can remove the saddle bag lid by removing the hinges underneath the bag. I don't have an 1800 at the moment so I can't say if it is true or not,. Look under the bag and see if you see any hinges there.

I believe that can be done. I believe the tool needed is a torx bit with a hole in the middle. Sorry ... don't know the size.
