banged shins on engine guard

Post by donmcferran » Mon Jul 08, 2019 6:15 pm

1982 gl1100 aspencade. Just banged my shins on those cursed engine guards AGAIN! I like having the engine guards on, but Wow. Any ideas how to shorten them, or replace with a different year that would be easier on my long legs? any ideas would be appreciated.

I constantly walked around with bruised shins when I had my GL1100. I know some have cut theirs shorter, but it really does lessen the amount of protection they can give in a tip-over.

Thanks, WingAdmin. If I could figure out how to shorten them and maintain strength, I probably would. But apparently you didn't figure it out, and you're the man. thanks for the reply.

When I first put the 1100 on the road I was banging my shins like crazy, and not so on the 1000, those guards were a three-point mount to the front upper and lower engine mounts and the frame midway up the radiator.

The 1100 was a "project" bike, hadn't yet decided if to keep it or not, when I finally decided to keep the 1100 and sell the 1000 I swapped the guards between the bikes. No more shin banging on the 1100.

Maybe you can find some guards like these.....

Good idea, I can find engine guards from a 1000 on ebay. Not as much protection, but i will try it. After the last shin bruise, I am reluctant to ride the bike, which makes it silly to own.
