GL1500 Charging Issues

Post by BuckTL » Fri Jul 12, 2019 2:09 pm

I had my bike in storage for a week because I was putting in a mica floor in my garage. When I picked it up I had a reading of 10.4 volts but the bike started. On the ride home it charged at 13.8 v and then poof I was at 10 volts and dropping. I started with new battery because my voltage shouldn't have dropped that much over a week. Installed the battery and now I hold 12 volts. After reading posts on your website I thought my alternator wasn't charging or the regulator was shot. I bought a new 90 amp from Amazon and have the same problem. Before starting battery voltage was 13.08v. After starting 12.3 at idle, 1500, and 3000 rpm. Took the bike for a ride and values dropped about .5 volts across the board. Does anyone have an idea what to try next?

Either the alternator you received from Amazon is defective, or neither alternator is defective.
There are only two wires on the alternator. One of them may not be connected properly or it has an open circuit in the wire somewhere. That is where I would start troubleshooting.
