gas in left 2 cylinders

Post by petethedrummer » Mon Aug 05, 2019 7:55 pm

I went to start my gl1100 this spring and it wouldnt turn over easy. I thought it was the battery but after buying a new battery,
I removed the plugs, turned it over, and the 2 cylinders on the left side of the bike shot gasoline out!
It seems to be filling up while it sits.
Do you think it could be a stuck float? Any suggestions would help!!
I do not want to part with my 1982 goldwing.. I love it!!

try giving the float bowls a few quick, firm raps with the plastic handle of a screwdriver. don't crack them, but let them know you are there. i could take quite a few raps, but don't hit too hard.
if you are lucky they will seat themselves better. also, turn petcock off when not riding.

If found in this condition after sitting a long while (you said first start of the spring) it's likely there's a good amount of gas in the oil, I recommend a change.

+1 on shutting off the petcock when not riding, that's what it's there for. Newer bikes have automatic shutoff.

Probably wouldn't hurt to run a couple doses of Seafoam thru the fuel, it will help clean the float valves.
