GoldwingHID headlight failed

Post by Jabberwokki » Sun Sep 01, 2019 7:29 pm

Greetings!
Great forum.
I recently became the proud owner of a well kept 98 GL1500.
The owner before me upgraded the headlights with a goldwinghid plug and play kit and I have had my right side headlamp bulb go on and off then quit completely.
I tried to track down info on the kit but it seems that site is no longer available.
Can anyone tell me if there is a possibility it is just the bulb or would it be something like the ballast on that side going out?
Does anyone know of a replacement bulb?
I am considering ordering the newest version from SoCal with the positioning light included (those are still original) but hesitate at spending that kind of cash if a bulb would fix the problem.
All other lights are working normal even with that one out (it won’t work either on high beam or low beam)
Thanks to anyone who can help

Honestly, having had the GoldwingHID kit and the LEDs now available, I would rip it out and replace with LEDs. They are far superior.

I'd go back to OEM Halogens on both at least. 60/45 watts each and easy to find.

I was working the counter one day and a lady wanted a HID replacement bulb for her car that her husband just had to have. $103 and I had to order it.

Thanks everyone.
I went with plan LED
My kit came today from SoCal and I couldn’t believe the difference in the simplicity of the wiring.
Compared to what I am taking out it’s pretty amazing.
I sprang for the optional direction lights so pretty soon going to put this part of the project to rest.

You're going to love nighttime riding with those SoCal LEDs!

Just upgraded to the SoCal LED.
My word what a difference.
I urge anyone to invest in this upgrade and add in the position lights with it.
Also recommend replacing the High and Low and Position relays with new.
Mine were causing problems at first until I replaced all relays with new.

Already do.
Huge difference and probably will add some more LED once the winter break comes.
Now just glad to have it all back together to ride some :-)
