Stator Failure

Post by Normk » Fri Sep 13, 2019 6:11 pm

I purchased this Gl1200 Interstate last fall. Had not been ridden in 20 years. Have spent the last year going from one end to the other. Finally got it running and then the stator failed. It was unexpected. When I removed the plug and soldered the leads it was very bad. I need to buy a new one. Just wanted some recomendations on where and what to buy. Don't want to have to do it over again in a year.

Mine failed in 1997, I went to Honda, got one with life warranty …. never another issue in 50K more miles. I just sold the bike in June, 2019. I don't believe Honda has them any longer. Google "Poor Boy Mod" for alternatives.

I thought about the poorboy conversation. But I would really like to keep thing original. It also concerns me that there is a lot of talk about the crankshaft seal failing and none available. But thank u for the reply.

This is an aftermarket stator that seems to give good longevity

this is another well known aftermarket supplier.

they probably have the most extensive coverage of all things "stator" than any other vendor.

this thread professes to use the KISS principle in testing stators

Cheap and Dirty test of the stator windings.
fast and it works
