1980 GL1100 exhoust Temp?

Post by K Baldwin » Sun Oct 06, 2019 4:44 pm

My 1980 GL1100 left side exhaust is running 290 - 400 deg and right side is 130 - 200 deg. What can cause the large difference in temps? still running good. Unplugged each plug wire one at a time and it stall when each one is unplugged, carbs have been rebuilt and synchronized, new spark plugs and no change in temps.

Valve adjustment and compression test is next when all else is equal.

Adjusted valves, no defense. puled exhaust to check for restrictions and realized that # 1 and # 3 are running very, very rich. found out my compression gage will not work on it.

Ah ha...excess fuel will cool....
Now that doesn't mean the carbs are bad.Only that there's unburnt fuel.

Weak spark...(does it have a healthy inch long snap?)
Low compression?(below 110 psi ?)

If there ok,you can revisit the carb float levels.I even managed to put one pair in upside-down!
