start button is on again off again... and I want to clean it and or replace it. To get to it, do I have to remove the throttle grip? if so, just disconnect the throttle cables in the grip?

get some electronic cleaner and use the plastic nozzle to flush it out,

this is plastic safe and cheap

look for aspy starter switch-FIXED, on goldwingdocs. also found a good video on you tube. look under Goldwing starter switch. I was able to get at my switch without having to loosen the screws at the carbs.you must be careful of the small spring. I was able to get mine working perfectly once all the old grease was removed and reassembled. with the article and video it will show you all you need to know to disassemble and reassemble.
