Bing...Yahoo...disappeared!

Post by WingAdmin » Fri Oct 11, 2019 2:56 pm

It was brought to my attention a week or so ago that GoldwingDocs had completely vanished from Bing search results. As a result, that means it had also vanished from Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and several other search engines which rely on Bing.

This was odd, as I've had the site set up and configured to be scanned in Bing for many years. I logged into the Bing site and sure enough, it was still set up to scan...but showed that it was not crawling the site, and that there were zero pages indexed.

I talked with their support people, who after several days confirmed that GoldwingDocs had been "erroneously blocked." That means all of the pages in the Bing index relating to GoldwingDocs were deleted, and no search results were ever shown.

They've fixed it, and I can see that they are slowly starting to crawl the site again (over the past 4 days they've crawled 20,000 out of the approximately 60,000 pages on the site. However, they have not yet started indexing any of them - and that could take weeks.

Until that happens, no search results will show for GoldwingDocs in Bing, Yahoo, MSN, or any other search engine that runs on Bing. Google, as always, is unaffected, and is, as always, your best choice for reliable search results. :)

I avoid Google as much as possible. Yes I have a gmail account but that is not used for normal use. That's the throw away account.

The indexing has begun, so we are now once again seeing results in searches on Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, etc. They're currently at about 20,000 pages and counting...

That's odd. My library reader software uses DDGo as there primary search engine (looking up word definitions English and foreign words) and I have to switch to a secondary search engine at least 25 percent of the time because DDGo can't find it.

DDGo for me is useless,

most of the time it will not find what I want, as is the case with Bing.
