gl1000 -1978 driveshaft question

Post by trbaron1 » Mon Nov 18, 2019 11:49 am

Hello again another question. I can't disassemble the driveshaft
From what I saw in YouTube movies, there is a ring -CIRCLIP 20MM number 16 (as it appears in a book) that needs to be removed
I don't have the ring on my motorcycle , but I have a **** that I need to pull it out
Is that the way?

Another question .is it possible to dismantle the driveshaft from behind ?
There is another ring -CIRCLIP 20MM number 16 too. I removed it but done nothing

Do you mean, remove the DS or disassemble it?

I ask as they cannot be repaired unless you have a new way of doing it.

Anything built by man can be rebuilt! Now its a question of what you would pay.

There is a write up on fixing u joints for Goldwings. Lots of machine work (read that as expensive) but it can be done.

Basically you have to grind or mill the staked ends and cut a new ring around to hold in the cir-clips used in car types (but smaller of course). They even had a u joint to order!

Me i have a spare u joint that is tight

Obviously anything you can think of can be done.

We did go to the moon.

The law of diminishing returns quickly comes into play.

When Honda discontinued the older shafts, there were articles here on how to rebuild them. However, Honda brought back the factory part at a good price, so the interest dried up.

When did Honda offer new driveshafts?

After not finding anywhere from where I have a ״ pin ״ in driveshaft instead of a ring ( CIRCLIP 20MM ) .
I drilled the pin and the driveshaft would come out / :D :D :D
"The engine is finally out and i can start painting the frame :geek: :geek:
