GL1500 upgrade front speakers

Post by dnt13 » Mon Nov 18, 2019 11:09 pm

Having already put some Pioneer 4 inchers in the rears (significant improvement!), I got a great deal on some quality used speakers to upgrade the weak fronts on my 2000 SE. Thing is, they are a tad over 5” diameter and 5 1/4” diagonally between mounting tabs so at first glance they are looking too big! 🙄 I am willing to trim a bit of plastic to make them fit. A project for later this winter to tear apart the fairing and give it a go. Has anyone else shoe horned 5 1/4 or bigger speakers in there?

A search here, will show you plenty of examples of various sized speakers and how extensive the modifications were to get them to fit. Based on what I saw I went with 4x6 oval coaxial units that seemed like the best fit without much in externally visible modifications. I have yet to do the install as I am still on the fence about changing out the radio, too.
