Sorry guys for bringing this topic up yet again, but like alot of post here and on the internet you get conflicting information. If read alot of information in regards to the darkside on a gl1500 (1990's) and I thought I got some useful information but as I read on I've read , that won't work it's to wide of a tire or it worked on my 1800, ( but we are talking about gl1500's here not 1800's) why is it so difficult for some one to just say the make and model (size ) of tire that Did work, not what didn't or won't. Also I've read about the Austone taxi tire which seems to be the go to when it was available but so far from what I read they are hard to come by if you can find one at all.... so a tire that would fit that is appropriately the same height that can be bought here in the USA and rides well is what we GL1500 riders are looking for from people with experience in recent years ,months days. Not from 10-15 years ago with tires that are no longer available. So if you have some good recent information on the matter, please give us Gl1500 riders a hand. Oh ,one other thing that I read was the 195 series works but at the end of the thread some else said if you are riding a 1500 you have to go with the 175 series????? Get my drift?

IMHO, the Austone is/was the best or the 1500.. You can still find them, but you have to look. You're not going to walk in to your local tire place and find them. There's even one on this board for sale. They're still widely available in England. The issue is getting someone to ship them. Know anyone there? maybe a serviceman?

The simple answer is, there are not car tires available in the size to fit the gl1500.

The space of the gl1500 2 sided swingarm is too narrow and there are not 175/75-16 car tires available anymore to fit in there(175/75-16 is the closest to original size mc tire width and height ratio aspects of the gl1500).

The Austone was a 175/80-16 series tire so it was taller than the gl1500 stock size tire giving a different trail geometry.

The 195 width car tires are wider and will rub the swingarm on the driveshaft side.
