Startup debugging - and mystery yellow wire

Post by sphen » Mon Nov 25, 2019 8:41 pm

I inspected the starter relay. All is well, but there’s a yellow wire Not connected to anything. Can’t find a reference in the manual (pic below). What is it and where does it go?

Found that the clutch switch is bad. I jumped over it and the starter relay clicks, so I guess it’s ok. Motor still doesn’t turn. Is it time to tear down the starter motor? Also, is the clutch switch a common available part? Or can the old one be cleaned/fixed?

Yellow wire: (runs along the relay harness wire)

The clutch switch is the same on GL1200's, GL1500's, and GL1800's. It's cheap and easy to fix - Cyclemax keeps them in stock:

Excellent.

Any idea what that yellow wire is? I'm concerned it may be related to the starter (lack of) function. It's not the neutral wire or something like that, is it? And it's not connected on either end as delivered.

Looks aftermarket to me. PO probably had an accessory of some sort wired in.
