Turn signal housing removal and bench rebuild....has anybody done it?

Post by thunderwing »

So my turn signal switch is acting funky, by that I mean when I activate the switch it puts one of the from marker/signal amber lights out and when it's night time I can see I have one side out, primarily the right hand/passenger side....I fiddle with the switch and pull the knob to make a left signal but not fully activate a lH turn and the light comes back on......soooooo.....I'm thinking that a bench rebuild with some tweaks on the contacts and a proper cleaning will put it right.....does anyone have any pictures or a link that they can post that has documented the procedure.

Thanks!!!

On my bike when you activate the turn signal the running light turns off so I am thinking it may be that you have a turn filament out on the right hand turn signal or a wire that has been disconnected to that circuit. You see no light on the right hand side but that would happen if you are signalling to the right and your filament for the turn signal was toast.Have you checked the bulbs? Just switching the left for the right may solve your problem. If you have a circuit tester you should be able to confirm power to the right hand turn signal quite easily.

an actual "rebuild" is not possible as the internal parts are not available (in fact, the entire assembly is shown as "not available" at partzilla). so your best shot at a fix is to disassemble/clean/lube the contact points. make sure the bulb sockets themselves are not ready to crumble from 40 years of corrosion.

A shot of pb blaster into the switch from the space between the switch and the housing is all it took for the switch to work correctly. All is well, turn signals and running lights function as they were intended to too from honda.

Had nothing to lose so it all worked out.
