My 1500 wont start!!!

Post by B15ape1981 » Wed Nov 27, 2019 5:54 pm

Hi guys, any suggestions of you at this point would be great. When i turn the ignition on and press the starter theres nothing, no cranking no clicking nothing.
Charged the battery still nothing so i put a screwdriver between the solenoid and it kicks over great so that rules the battery out, so long story short me and a friend went over the bike back to front checking fuses and for bad earths. Whatever we did we got lucky and managed to start it on the button, the only difference ive noticed is on the dash when you first turn the key and all the lights come on...this time the cruise control lights (which are a amber colour and on the far bottom right of the dash) come on when you first turn the key and hey presto it starts!! And has behaved perfectly for a few months!

Took the front forks out today as im having them serviced and thought ill just start her up, turned the key and yet again all lights come on the dash apart from the cruise control lights...my heart sunk!! You guessed it it wont start again. Im 99 percent its an electrical problem and im thinking when ive been taking the forks out and moving the headstock ive maybe moved some bad wiring??
Any advice would be greatly recieved thanks Andy

Well I see that no one has responded to your question so I will take a shot. First thing I would check is the kill switch (run/stop switch). Sometimes the screws can get loose and cause a poor connection. If that is good, check or swap the ignition/cruise relay with a known good one.

Good deal! :) It is always good to hear of a successful outcome to a problem.

You might want to think about replacing that relay, then. They are mechanical devices and do wear out over time. If it starts working intermittently, the next step is for it to not work at all.

I would second the idea of replacing that relay. Also, while you have it out, take a look at the contacts where it plugs in and see if there is any corrosion or overheating apparent.
