Air Rider Voltage meter/ gear position indicator

Post by mweddy@gmail.com » Sun Dec 01, 2019 7:18 pm

I have an Air Rider Voltage meter/ gear position indicator combo gauge on my 05 GW. I was looking to get one for my friend who has a 2014 model, but Air Rider doesn't list them any more. Does anyone know where I might find one, new, or used?

The Air Rider has long been discontinued so used would be about the only option. They were originally made for the gl1500 to be mounted in place of the goldwing emblem on the dash panel. Keep a watch on fleebay listings for that panel and occasionally you might find one but probably not by the airrider name unless the parts stripper knows what they have.

An option still available for the 1800 gear indicator is the GLpro Healtec gear indicator.

I mounted my glpro in the speaker area behind the left speaker screen of my 08 where the tweeters were before I changed the speakers to Polk(01-05 are different sound system and front speakers so no separate tweeters in your 05).
I also picked up a small round digital volt meter and mounted it in the right side tweeter area.
I cut out the tweeter plastic housing and shaped the dash to accept the glpro and the voltmeter then used ABS cement in thin layers, over several days(24 hrs between layers to properly dry each layer) to mount the meters in place. I removed the speaker screens while fitting the meters initially, putting painters tape on the screen and meter faces, to mask the areas I didn't want the cement to stick to as well as to make dams with the tape to form the area where I wanted the cement to be.

Your friend's 2014 has the tweeters like my 08 so if he changed to Polk speakers he can eliminate the stock tweeters as I did, as the tweeters are no longer used when installing Polk speakers(dual cone speakers).
I also picked up a small round digital volt meter and mounted it in the right side tweeter area.

If I remember correctly, they were forced to stop making them as they were at the losing end of a patent infringement suit. So used is going to be your only option.
