Clutch adjustment

GL 1100 1983
Since having the Wing I have found that the clutch snatches when I start the bike before the engine warms up that is to say with the clutch right in we have a slight hop forward when I put the bike in gear! After 5 minutes no problem for the rest of the day.
I did my first oil change on the Wing since buying it (about 12 months ago / about 5000 km) and found gear changes much cleaner. Yes I paid money for the correct oil !

My question is about the best way to adjust the clutch. I have read Wingadmin’s note on clutch cable replacement, I find there is no play in the clutch actuator and if I understand correctly there should be about 15mm free play.
Would the best procedure for adjusting the clutch be to:
• disconnect the cable at the clutch lever end
• then reset the clutch actuator to give the required play of 15mm
• then set the play on the clutch lever?

I have learnt a great thing with a sidecar rig – for anything on the right of the Wing you have to have the ability to hang upside down like a bat.

One final thing - I have ridden a BMW K75 for years and the gear box are quite clunky until you get the hang of the bike – Are the Wing boxes similar – bomb proof and noise at times?

That is what I would do. Follow wingadmans advice.

Once you get the feeling of this bike you will find it's sweet spot.

Ya - the 'Wing boxes can be kinda clunky, a lot of mass to the tranny parts to handle the torque.... Pretty much bomb proof though.
