Gl1800 windshield mechanism

Post by vothger » Wed Mar 25, 2020 8:19 pm

The windshield on my 1800 raises up but will not go down. Is there a simple fix or do I need a new ratchet mechanism?

The tension screws probably need to be adjusted.
They hold pressure down against the windshield.

I have had the windshield off and it slides freely but the ratchet mechanism does not flip over to the down position

Probably already known to you, but it has to go all the way to the top before it will go down. If this does not help, I got nothing else.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Viking already stated that it must go all the way to the top before it can be dropped back down. I had that problem shortly after I bought my 2008 trike. Someone on here, possibly Viking, responded....I lifted it all the way up, and voila! I could then push it all the way back down.

HAD THAT HAPPEN TO ME A COUPLE YEARS BACK. HAD TO TAKE FRONT APART TO GET AT MECHANIZE TO CLEAN RATCHET SLID, THEN USED GRAPHITE TO LUBE SLIDE. WORKS GREAT STILL NOW.
 I know people say we spend too much money on our rides, but I can't hear them when I'm 1000 miles away!

Did you pull it all the way up to flip the lever over to allow it to go down. If in doubt, check the Owner's Manual.

The problem is that the lever will not flip. You ca feel and see the lever hit the stop but it will not flip
