Was sent wrong starter solenoid, plug will fit

Post by noxok »

Hello, First time posting.

I bought a new Starter Solenoid but they sent one for a Suzuki. Every thing looks identical to what I expected but it does have a 20AMP fuse.

Should I return or would this be expected to work? Maybe change out fuses for the expected 30AMP?

If the solenoid is the same as the one they would have sent for a Goldwing, use it with the 20A and carry a 30A in case. If you ordered it for a Goldwing and they sent you one for a Suzuki I would ask for them to send a correct one, and if they want the Suzuki one back suggest that they pay shipping, one the replacement and the return shipping as well.

Thanks for confirming the thought process. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Thanks again.

Any solenoid will work as it's just a relay. The starter button actuates the low current coil (electro magnet) which pulls in the contacts which switch the high current to the starter. The fuse is for the main circuits to the rest of the bike. You could change the fuse to 30A for the 'wing, but the plug connections will need to be checked to ensure they match the original solenoid.

Solenoids aren't all the same. What is the current draw of the Suzuki? Does the Goldwing draw more current? Does it need a solenoid (relay) rated for more amps? The clue is the fuse. I'd be inclined to return it for the correct one.
