2003 GL1800 RH Handel bar reverse/start panel RR

Post by saje »

Hi guys , I need to replace the RH reverse/start switch panel, I’m looking for a How To, or anyone that has done this, hopefully with some steps,
I’m concerned with getting the throttle cables off, and back on ?
Appreciate any one with experience that can help.
Thanks
Ed

- remove the front speaker cover
- remove meter panel
- remove fork cover
- loosen left bolt on brake hose/harness bracket on top of top bridge. Remove right bolt.
- remove pockets, seat, and shelter
- loosen throttle cable adjustment at throttle
- remove front brake lever
- remove brake light/cruise control switch
- remove cover under right handle bar
- remove 2 screw on underside of kill switch assy
- unhook both throttle cables
- remove right inner cowl
- remove 2 screws that secure white harness holder to right air duct, remove whatever connectors need removed to remove and disconnect the kill switch connector
- remove the harness back to the kill switch
- unscrew inner screw that secures the upper switch assembly to the handle bar and slide out throttle grip
- unscrew the cables. Be sure to count the turns for the one that requires you to twist the switch assembly and be sure to count the turns (usually 6.5)

Tips
- routing is critical ... reinstall the harness how it came out
when you get the old switch out see the hole in the bar, see the nub on the underside of the switch ... the nub has to go into the hole
- before you start re-routing the harness, be sure your cables are gonna end up not crossed
- before starting this project, center stand your Wing, turn the bars to the full right and snap the throttle. Do the same in the center and full left. Make a note if the throttle snaps closed in all 3 positions. When you get the throttle grip off, clean the inside, and the bar. Lube with lithium based grease. Once all is reassembled, retest your throttle snap-back.
