The underside of the trunk has lockable helmet holders, those are the release levers which belong inside the trunk and by turning will release the catches.

Welcome to the forum.

Regarding your question, what ct1500 said. Shortly after buying my GL1500 I also found one of those bouncing around in the trunk. Seems the little plastic clips just under the knob tend to break off allowing the assy to pop back out of its assigned location. May be a common problem because Cyclemax keeps them in stock.

It is a common problem. Those metal shafts pop out, and they can drop out and fall out of the bottom of the trunk. Ask me how I know. :)

I epoxied mine into the knobs to fix the problem, and haven't lost one since (I had to lose two of them however to come up with that solution).

Mine have also taken to bouncing up and out and will be ordering those knobs from Cyclemax. :D
