77 Goldwing rear blinkers
Another stupid question. I have a 77 goldwing that for years had saddlebags and a fairing. I am in the process of returning the bike to its original condition a (Naked wing). After removing all the spliced in light harnesses for the saddlebags stop turn, and running lights then installing original rear blinkers I have a question.
The front blinkers work as intended and also stay lit as a marker light as well as the headlight. The rear blinkers work as intended but do not stay lit as a marker light.
I can not for the life of me remember if this is the way they worked originally? The stop light is lit all the time as well as getting brighter when brakes are applied. I do have one wire that is black with a green band on it. It is connected to a green wire which I assume is a ground. Anyway this wire is connected to nothing! Maybe it was part of the saddlebag light system?

I think that's right, just the taillight should be on with it's running light..Isn't it?

Thanks littlebeaver, I just could not remember. I just found out that the DOT does not allow amber lenses to be used aslittlebeaver wrote:I think that's right, just the taillight should be on with it's running light..Isn't it?
running or clearance lights in the rear! If I wanted running lights in the rear they have to be red! I want a naked wing but would
like more lighting in the rear of the bike!
Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
No running lights in rear. Stock light fixture supported only a 1156 bulb for the winkers.

Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
Thank you Fewman. I bought the bike new in 1977, then added fairing, trunk, and saddlebags. After 34 years I forgotFewman wrote:No running lights in rear. Stock light fixture supported only a 1156 bulb for the winkers.
how the lights worked in the rear. With the bags on I had three stop, two side marker, and two large turn signal lights!
Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
I bought mine new in '75 and had a similar set-up with Wixom bags...but now I'm naked, like it was new.

If you want to convert to red running lights here are red lenses on e-bay.

Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
If you want to convert your stock turn signals to running/brake/turn signals using the original the stock bulb, etc, find yourself a Priority Lites module. It's a small sealed unit that is installed between your bike's wiring harness and the rear light assembly. I have one on my naked '76 and love it. It is really lit up nice back there, and looks bone stock (except mine are tucked in, mounted on the sides of the tail light bracket. I have retained the amber lenses, because they are brighter than the red. The only legal issue is that they act as amber running lights at half voltage, but function normally as amber turn signals. I have yet to be stopped while using it for over 3 years, just as I have never been stopped or questioned about the blue Ring Of Fire on the front of my 1500. It seems to be the descretion of an officer whether to make issue, and if it appears to him that you are not flaunting the law, but are showing extra efforts for safety, they pretty much leave you alone.

Hey dingdong thanks for the tip, I may go this route. Will probably have to change bulb socket to accept double filament bulb and run another wire for use as running light.

Thanks for your$0.2 Ron. I have heard of Priority Lites Modules, but thought they were only for a pulsating headlight or tail lite. Have you added extra lights or are you running the modules as I stated?landisr wrote:If you want to convert your stock turn signals to running/brake/turn signals using the original the stock bulb, etc, find yourself a Priority Lites module. Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
Right now that's all that's back there. I believe those other modules might be made by the same company. But after I get the new FIAMM horns hooked up, I'll probably start putting some small LED lights here and there for additional effect. I like the idea that the module takes minimal power and the running lights only take about 8 watts total. And the bike will never 'notice' the LEDs.

PS. Here's a little more info on it/them..

I thinks BikeBandit.com has them, among others.

Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
Thanks Ron for the link to the modules, I will probably go this route. My question though is that the rear lights are single filament 1157 bulbs. Do I have to convert the light fixture to a 2 wire light?landisr wrote:Right now that's all that's back there. I believe those other modules might be made by the same company. Our last conversation about amber or red tail lights for running lights, MA Registry of Motor Vehicles says that yellow running lights in the rear are DOT and MA illegal. That being said I have purchased the red lenses that Dingdong mentioned.
Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
I thought #1156 was single filament and #1157 the double...?

My bad! You are correct the 1156 is a single filament!Fewman wrote:I thought #1156 was single filament and #1157 the double...?

Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
The Priority Lites use the 1156 bulbs you have now. They just run them at half voltage as running lites. No bulb or socket replacement necessary. Neat, huh?

Neat it is Ron, and I thank you for the tip! I am in the middle of removing the fairing and all the soldered in wiring that goes with it. Rummaging trying to find everything I took off 33 years ago to return it to naked.landisr wrote:The Priority Lites use the 1156 bulbs you have now. Great project. I'm sure you will enjoy the end product. I putts down back roads at 40-50 mph with a silly grin on my face. Great offset from my long distance rides on my 1500.

Re: 77 Goldwing rear blinkers
Just turned 68 in April. The bike fully loaded was getting to be too much for me to handle. Can't justify selling it! I had no problem riding it. Putting on the rear stand or just pushing it around was a chore.landisr wrote:Great project. I'm sure you will enjoy the end product. Price of gas nuts! I will park the truck and use the bike as my daily driver! Stay safe Ron and again thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the feedback Kurt. My bike is now back to naked! The lights are running as stock, the way yours are.kmassey wrote:Thats the way my 75 is.Fewman wrote:No running lights in rear. Stock light fixture supported only a 1156 bulb for the winkers.

I have ordered the module that Ron suggested, and have purchased the red lenses that Dindong mentioned. I will be going that route and
will post results!

Project done! Priority lite module is sweet. Changed out amber lenses for red. Lots of light back there now! Got MA inspection sticker no problem.MACKCL1998 wrote:Thanks for your$0.2 Ron.
