Here is a link to a conversion. Very lengthy but you will see all the problems that were solved along the way.
No kits. Just great ingenuity.

I guess it's my turn now to deal with it. Bought a 85 Aspencade the other day off Ebay and the multimeter is telling me I've got a fried stator. Already contacted Don P. about a poorboy kit, but he's on a trip right now and probably can't do any shipping for a few days. I thought about just fabricating something myself, but from past experience I can vouch that my homespun machining efforts usually end up being train wrecks. Ah well, I had planned on putting timing belts and some other tasks so it'll give me something to do this winter besides watching the snow drift.

Disconnect the plug and leave it all on the bike. I disconnected the multiple plug on the left beside the regulater plug. I used the black wire for my keyed hot wire to the system.
This plug will disconnect your stater
